Driver Dies After Striking Tree on University of Alabama Campus Monday
A driver died on the campus of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Monday after a single-car accident near the student center, police have confirmed.
Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said TPD and University of Alabama Police officers were called to the intersection of McCorvey Drive and Campus Drive West at about 2 p.m. on Monday.

Callers reported that a vehicle had struck a tree near Marr's Spring, north of the campus Quad and student center.
Taylor said the driver was critically injured, and although first-responders attempted life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Taylor did not immediately share the victim's identity, but said he was not a student, faculty, or staff member at UA.
TPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit will conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The THU investigates all deadly automobile accidents that occur within Tuscaloosa city limits, and their involvement alone does not indicate any suspicion of a crime.
UPDATE: TPD has identified the victim as Danny Clay Hartley, 65.
"At this time, TPD Traffic Homicide Unit investigators believe Mr. Hartley’s death was caused by a sudden medical event that occurred moments before the crash," a TPD spokesperson said.
