Birmingham Truck Driver Dies in Wilcox County Wreck
A Birmingham truck driver was killed Monday morning when his tractor-trailer collided with construction equipment in Wilcox County, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Troopers have confirmed.
Reginal King, a spokesman for the Troopers in West Alabama, said the 34-year-old Birmingham man was driving a 2006 Mack truck on Alabama Highway 5 when he ran into construction equipment that was being operated by a Florida man.
King said Cowans was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the truck during the accident. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The operator of the construction equipment was injured and taken to an area hospital for treatment, King said.
The accident took place just before 11 a.m. less than a mile south of the Pine Hill city limits.
No other details were available Monday night and King said Troopers with ALEA's Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the deadly wreck.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said the wreck took place in Marengo County. ALEA has since sent a corrected news release clarifying it took place in Wilcox County.
