Assault On Bibb Correctional Officer Brings Indictment on Inmate
There are more legal troubles in store for an inmate at Bibb County Correctional Facility located in Brent. According to Bibb County court filings, a Bibb County grand jury handed down two indictments earlier this month against inmate Jhavarske Antoine Lewis. He is currently serving 20 years for a capital murder conviction in Montgomery when he was 16 years old. He is now indicted for attempted murder of a correctional officer.
According to the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC), records show Lewis was involved in an assault on a guard in 2019. An indictment was returned for that incident in 2022 but for some reason it was never served, and Lewis has remained in general custody.

The guard was left with serious enough injuries that he has been unable to work since the assault.
According to authorities the first indictment for the attack was handed down in 2022, However, for some reason, the indictment warrant was never served on Lewis.
Lewis was convicted felony murder, robbery and assault charge in an attack on Brenda Sherard in her driveway in the capitol city. Court records show Lewis and the other three defendants all pleaded guilty to felony murder in connection with the death of Mrs. Sherard.
Tommy Lewis was the father of the inmate and stepfather of a 15-yuear-old youth who was also convicted for the murder. He remained adamant that his oldest son did not commit the homicide. Other relatives in the family agreed, claiming that the youth was at home and could not have committed the crime. Neither the Montgomery District Attorney's Office, a jury or appeals court judge believed that story.
A 13-year-old eyewitness identified Lewis and three others as the culprits in the murder.
Lewis was eligible for parole, but it is not known how the assault would impact that if he is convicted.
