The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama's Adopt-A-School program recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, and now it is adding another new partner. One of Tuscaloosa's newest banks, Local Bank, has signed up to sponsor Woodland Forest Elementary School as an Adopt-A-School partner.

The Peoples Bank of Red Level became a Local Bank in 2022 and subsequently moved its headquarters to Tuscaloosa in June 2022. The Tuscaloosa bank was subsequently opened in March 2023. The leadership then stated its intention to become an integral part of the Tuscaloosa community, and its involvement in an Adopt-A-School partnership demonstrates this commitment.

“At Local Bank, we believe in investing in the future of our community,” said a representative from Local Bank. “Our involvement with the Adopt-A-School program reflects our commitment to empowering students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in today's world. By supporting initiatives like this, we're not only helping shape tomorrow's workforce—we're building meaningful connections between schools, businesses, and the community. We encourage other organizations to get involved and help pave the way for student success.”

The partnership will allow Local Bank to recognize students with perfect attendance each month and each quarter, celebrate and support teachers throughout the year, lead financial literacy sessions for school faculty, and volunteer as classroom readers.

.

Their support will help us continue creating meaningful learning experiences for our students and strengthen the connection between our school and the community. Together, we’re investing in the future of every child at Woodland Forrest.”

The Adopt-A-School program was initiated in 1985 and has grown significantly over the years, expanding to Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Marengo, Pickens, and Sumter counties in recent years.
