Suspect in Car Theft on Tuscaloosa Strip Captured in Greene County
A Tuscaloosa man was arrested after leading Tuscaloosa Police and State Troopers on a car chase to Greene County after he allegedly stole a vehicle Tuesday morning.
According to TPD spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor, a man reported that his 2015 Land Rover was stolen while he was picking up an order from Smoothie King on The Strip in Tuscaloosa around 9:45 a.m. The victim used GPS tracking, where he saw the vehicle traveling west on I-20/59.
Alabama State Troopers then attempted to stop the vehicle at Mile Marker 52 near Knoxville in Greene County, but the suspect stopped at the Knoxville exit, exited the vehicle and ran into the woods along the interstate.
After an extensive search, TPD arrested 23-year-old Stone Michael McDowell with first-degree theft and was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail. Jail records indicate he has additional drug and property charges that may predate his Tuesday arrests.
