The Alabama Department of Transportation will begin limited lane closures on Highway 82 in Coker on Wednesday to set girders for the new bridge they're installing over Big Creek.

John McWilliams, a spokesperson for ALDOT in the region, said their crews will install six girders which will ultimately support the weight of the bridge.

"Eastbound traffic on US-82 will be stopped for a maximum of 20 minutes at a time during each girder placement," McWilliams said in a press announcement.

Westbound traffic will not be impacted - those girders were placed last fall.

"No lane closures will take place before 8:30 a.m. or after 2:30 p.m. to reduce the impact to traffic," McWilliams said. "Law enforcement will assist with traffic control."

The department said real-time updates are available on the ALDOTraffic app and their website, visit ALGOTraffic.com.
