Alabama Punter Enters the Transfer Portal
Alabama punter Ty Perine has officially entered the transfer portal. The walk-on was the Crimson Tide's lead punter three seasons ago, finishing the 2019 season when Will Reichard injured his hip flexor.
When he stepped onto the field halfway through that 2019 season, the Prattville High School alum was a true freshman walk-on. Now, he will be the 13th person off of the 2021 Alabama football roster to enter the transfer portal.
He finished that season with 13 punts in six games for an average of 44.7 yards per punt. Since then, Perine has not recorded a punt for the Tide. He did not take part in Alabama's Citrus Bowl win that season and was soon after replaced with a transfer from Air Force and younger brother of a former Tide punter, Charlie Scott.
Perine stayed with Alabama for the past two seasons despite not getting any action under Scott and James Burnip.
Perine's big moment for Bama came against the Tennessee Volunteers at home in 2019. He recorded his longest punt for 51 yards and then raced down the field to tackle the returner. That play can be seen below.
Alabama is expected to continue using Australian punter Burnip next season as he will be a sophomore.
Matt Zenitz of On3 was the first to report Perine to the portal. Every one of the 12 other Alabama players has found a home out of the NCAA transfer portal, including Jaylen Moody who decided to come back to Alabama.
