Alabama lands another commitment on the defensive side of the football in defensive end Monkell Goodwine. The 6-foot-4, 260 pound defensive end is considered a four-star prospect out of National Christian Academy in Fort Washington, Maryland. 247Sports Composite ranks him the No. 4 ranked recruit in Maryland and the No. 9 ranked strong side defensive end in the country.

He chose the Crimson Tide over offers from Clemson, Texas A&M and Arizona State. Outside linebackers coach Sal Sunseri and defensive line coach Freddie Roach were his primary recruiters for the Crimson Tide.

In his three years playing high school football he has recorded 139 tackles, 29 for loss, 12 sacks and forced four fumbles.

Alabama made him an initial scholarship offer in Feb. 2019 and he was able to attend Nick Saban's camp in June of last year.

He becomes the 17th prospect to join the Alabama 2021 recruiting class, and the ninth defensive player in the current class. He joins four-star prospect Dallas Turner as the second defensive end to commit to Alabama.

The Crimson Tide boasts the No. 2 recruiting class in the nation just slightly behind Ohio State according to the 247Sports rankings. Alabama now has four, five-star recruits, 10 four-star recruits and three, three-stars in the class.

This could be just the start of a strong day for Alabama as highly coveted JUCO cornerback, Khyree Jackson is making his commitment at 6:00 p.m. this evening. Jackson has the Crimson Tide ranked in his final six schools.
