Wreck During Attempt to Elude Tuscaloosa Police Kills Teen Passenger
The passenger who was killed in a wreck during an attempt to evade police in Tuscaloosa Friday morning was only 15, State Troopers said in an update.
Corporal Regional King, a spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Troopers in West Alabama, shared the news late Friday night.
King said the driver responsible for the chase and accident was 19-year-old Kevonta O. Hayward-Jackson, who fled from police in a 2000 Ford Taurus around 4:30 a.m. Friday.
Hayward-Jackson left the roadway on 25th Avenue Northeast in Tuscaloosa just off Jack Warner Parkway and struck several trees.
His passenger, a 15-year-old girl, was fatally injured in the wreck.
Hayward-Jackson was transported to an area hospital for treatment, King said.
King did not share any other details Friday night, and did not identify the juvenile victim by name. He said Troopers with the Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the deadly wreck.
