The Tuscaloosa Police Department is investigating a Friday morning crash where one person was killed and one taken to the hospital.

According to a release from TPD spokesperson Stephanie Taylor, the incident happened at 4 a.m. Friday morning.

Taylor said a TPD officer attempted to stop a vehicle that had run a stop sign at 13th Street East and 15th Avenue. The driver refused to stop and continued driving along Kicker Road before heading north toward Jack Warner Parkway.

Taylor said the officer continued to pursue the suspect, who continued driving along 25th Avenue East when at 4:03 a.m., the driver left the roadway and hit a tree near the curve by Tamaha Trace.

Taylor said the male driver was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center, however a female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Taylor said Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency responded and are investigating the crash.

The portion of 25th Avenue East, south of Colonial Drive, and Jack Warner Parkway remains closed as the initial stages of the investigation continue.
