Worker Killed When Hole Collapses and Floods in Eutaw, Alabama Tuesday
A worker helping dig a hole at a community center in Eutaw was trapped when it collapsed, prompting a multi-agency rescue effort Tuesday night.
The Greene County Ambulance Service said on Facebook that they were on the scene of a "heavy technical rescue" with assistance from law enforcement and firefighters from Eutaw and Tuscaloosa.
The rescue attempt was underway in the Branch Heights community in Eutaw all night Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
Finally, some time after 4 a.m. Wednesday, the body of a 46-year-old city employee was recovered from the collapsed and flooded hole.
City Hall in Eutaw will be closed Wednesday as other municipal staff mourns the loss of one of their own.
