Captain Marty Sellers, the co-commander of the VCU, said the victim, identified as 27-year-old Dennis Melton, was found trapped under the vehicle that struck him. The Dempolis man was rushed to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa for treatment of his wounds but died a short time later.

The incident was originally treated as an accident, but Sellers said after investigation, the VCU has reason to believe the collision was intentional.

The driver, Angelica Quintana, a 28-year-old Demopolis woman, was arrested Tuesday evening and charged with murder.

She was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where her bond was set at $500,000.

Sellers said the driver and victim were in a "domestic relationship" that may have played a role in the killing.
