Tuscaloosa Man Accused of Robbing and Raping Woman at Gunpoint
A Tuscaloosa man has been charged with a trio of felonies after he reportedly robbed and sexually assaulted a woman at gunpoint this week.
Investigators with the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit handled the case and said in court documents that earlier this week, 27-year-old Keianthony Deonta Sterling invited a woman he had met online to his residence in Tuscaloosa.
Sterling allegedly pulled a pistol on the woman after she arrived and held her at gunpoint while he stole a large sum of cash from her purse.
He is also accused of sexually assaulting the woman while still armed and reportedly threatened to kill her if she didn't keep quiet about what happened.
The VCU said in a deposition that Sterling was interviewed and denied any nonconsensual sexual contact and said he was not armed during the interaction, but investigators searched Sterling's residence and said they found firearms and other items of evidence that appear to corroborate the allegations.
Sterling was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy, all Class A felonies.
The 27-year-old Tuscaloosa man was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where he remained Friday morning.
