The Tuscaloosa County Parks and Recreation Authority released the theme and other details for the 46th Annual West Alabama Christmas Parade.

This year's theme is "A Retro Christmas" and the parade will be held on December 5, beginning with the tree lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. followed by the parade at 6:30 p.m.

The route for the parade will begin at 11th Street and Greensboro Avenue, travel north on Greensboro Avenue, turn east to University Boulevard and end at 19th Avenue.

There are several important dates community members and potential participants should note, including:

  • October 8: Grand Marshall applications are due by 5 p.m.
  • November 15: Parade entry applications are due by 5 p.m.
  • November 28: Parade entry meeting will be held at the Belk Activity Center, located at 2101 Bowers Park Drive, at 5:30 p.m.

According to a release from PARA, the event is Alabama's largest parade of its kind and has occurred since beginning in 1976, with Paul W. Bryant being the first Grand Marshall.
