We are closely monitoring the tropics as we near the peak of hurricane season, which runs from late August through late September. However, the Atlantic hurricane season is from June 1st until November 30th.

There are two areas in the tropics that I am closely monitoring because of the potential they both have to develop into something concerning. From my review, it is still too soon to predict if we will have a threat to the United States mainland. Guidance shows there is a possibility for the future development of a tropical depression or tropical storm.

System 1 – Invest 97L
According to the Weather Channel, it “is tracking through the eastern Caribbean Sea.” Also, “this system could bring at least some rainfall to the Yucatan Peninsula by this weekend. It's too early to know if it will bring any impacts to other land areas beyond that time, including the mainland United States.” From my findings, Invest 97L does have the potential to enter the Gulf of Mexico within the next 5 to 6 days.

System 2 – Invest 98L
According to the Weather Channel, it “has been given a high chance to form into a tropical depression or storm during the next couple of days as it tracks toward the west-northwest.”

Right now, our goal is to monitor these systems and to keep you updated on these storms with any potential they may have for our area.
