Parts of McFarland Boulevard will close under the recently completed I-20/59 bridge as the Alabama Department of Transportation places sensors to study the health of the structure.

In a Thursday press release, ALDOT said they will close some lanes of the busy Tuscaloosa thoroughfare from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

At least one through-traffic lane will be open at all times if all goes according to plan, ALDOT said.

The sensors being installed will relay important infrastructure data to the University of Alabama, who is studying the health of the bridge for research purposes, ALDOT said.

Motorists in the area on those three nights can expect traffic delays, ALDOT said, and should consider using Skyland Boulevard, I-359 or other nearby routes to avoid getting caught in the waiting.
