Police Rescue Nearly 100 Dogs in Walker County, Man Charged with Animal Cruelty
Walker County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man accused of animal cruelty, and are in the process of rescuing nearly 100 dogs from his residence.
The Walker County Sheriff's Office received help from Greater Birmingham Humane Society, Jasper Animal Shelter, Walker County EMA, Walker County Humane Society and the Saragossa Fire department to help execute a search warrant at a residence in the Lupton/Prospect community Monday morning.
Authorities helped rescue between 75 to 100 dogs from the location.
While the warrant was being executed, deputies located the suspect near a bowling alley in Jasper. The suspect, Orville Brian Nailer, 53, of Nauvoo, was arrested on 28 counts of second degree Animal Cruelty.
Officers took Nailer into custody, while the Jasper Animal Shelter rescued 11 more dogs that were inside his vehicle.
On top of that, Nailer also had a warrant out for failing to appear in court for a ticket he received while driving with a suspended license.
The team continues to rescue dogs from the original residence.
