Northport, Alabama PD Finds a Unique Way to Spread Holiday Cheer
The Northport Police Department announced on Facebook that they would be increasing their patrolling efforts. It is the holiday season and this is a typical scenario for this time of the year. However, there is a twist.
During these police stops until Christmas, there might be a better outcome for you than a ticket. The Northport Police Office might just give you’re a gift card instead. This is all being supported by RH Fortenberry Consulting who made a generous donation.
The post on the Northport Police Department’s Facebook page said that “Mr. Fortenberry and his family are new to our area and were looking for ways to give back to the community this holiday season. After having a positive encounter with one of our officers he thought it would be nice to team up and spread kindness and holiday cheer to other citizens.”
There were many comments about this unique way of spreading holiday cheer. To clear up any confusion, they said that the “people getting pulled over have committed a traffic violation. It’s just the officer’s decision that instead of issuing a citation they give a gift card. If anyone is following traffic laws they will not get pulled over even for a gift card.”
The response to the gift card promotion has been met with some hesitation. However, one person commented that they recently got pulled over and received a gift card. The driver noted that they were “pleasantly surprised and very thankful.”
The Northport Police Department said they were “happy to help and look forward to handing out gift cards for gas and groceries.”
