Two people were injured, one seriously, in separate shootings in Tuscaloosa Monday night, and one suspect has been arrested after a search using drones and dogs tracked him down.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said the arrest is connected to the more serious of the two incidents, which took place around 8:15 p.m. at Valmont Industries on Dornell Cousette Street.

An employee sitting in his vehicle was apprhaced by a man identified as 35-year-old Travis Moore, who allegedly opened fire on the car with a gun, striking the vehicle and the victim.

Kennedy said the man who was shot was able to retreat back into the business for help, and Moore fled the scene.

TPD and the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office flooded the area with officers and deputies to find him.

"They were soon able to determine the suspect had fled to a wooded area and set up a perimeter," Kennedy said. "Utilizing witnesses, area video, drones, and K9 units, the suspect was taken into custody, and the weapon used was also located. "

Moore, who was reportedly out on bond for a separate attempted murder in 2023, was arrested and charged with another count of attempted murder as well as firing into an occupied vehicle, also a felony.

He was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond.

The other shooting took place about 90 minutes before the one described above - Kennedy said TPD was called to the 5000 block of 1st Street East on a shooting.

A 21-year-old man had been shot and was taken to the hospital.

Both victims are expected to survive, and Kennedy said the VCU is actively investigating the earlier case, which has not yet led to an arrest.
