After some ultimately unwarranted uncertainty about whether the beloved costume store would reopen in Tuscaloosa this year, the owner and operator of Spirit Halloween has confirmed they will return in mid-September in the old Sears location at University Mall.

Questions about the store's status and future arose because the Druid City was not included on the store locator on the Spirit Halloween website. The seasonal giant plans to open more than 1,400 stores in the United States and Canada.

On Friday, though, the store's owner and operator Marianne Kroll told the Tuscaloosa Thread location will be open for business sometime next month.

Kroll said her staff is working hard to repair and remodel parts of the old Sears store prior to welcoming shoppers back to the seasonal superstore and could not give an exact opening date.

This is the second year that Spirit Halloween will set up shop at the University Mall location. For many years, the store opened in the old Books-a-Million next to the McFarland Mall on Skyland Boulevard.
