Closeout sales are underway at Party City in Tuscaloosa's Midtown Village. The store and more than 850 other locations will soon permanently close as the company goes out of business.

The largest party supply chain in the US declared bankruptcy last January and was able to stay afloat for two more years as its leaders tried to improve the company's financial health, but those efforts were not enough.

A few days before Christmas, CNN broke the news that Party City would wind down operations and close all stores.

The same report says all stores will be shuttered by February 28 and the brand's thousands of employees will be let go without severance.

Tuscaloosa's Party City is one of 10 in Alabama, with other locations in Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Opelika and Spanish Fort.

The Midtown Village store opened in early 2022, replacing the Nike Factory Store that permanently closed in 2020.
