Tuscaloosa’s Dirt Cheap to Close With All Others, Liquidation Sale Underway
Signs are up confirming that Tuscaloosa's Dirt Cheap discount retailer will permanently close along with all other locations after the brand's parent company declared bankruptcy on Monday.
Dirt Cheap is owned and operated by Channel Control Merchants, a Mississippi company that filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy and announced that all 60-plus stores will sell what they can and then close forever.

That will include its locations in Tuscaloosa, Demopolis, Birmingham, Mobile and five other Alabama cities.
The Tuscaloosa store opened originally as a Treasure Hunt insurance salvage store - also owned by Channel Control - but converted to the Dirt Cheap brand in 2011 after less than a year under the first banner, according to contemporary reporting from the Tuscaloosa News.
A visit to the Tuscaloosa store at 1500 Skyland Boulevard East across from Sam's Club confirmed discounts ranging from 40-90 percent off.
