Tuscaloosa’s Black Warrior Brewing to Close After 13 Years
A fixture of downtown Tuscaloosa for more than a decade and one of just two breweries in the area will permanently close in May, ending a 13-year run of good times and community gatherings.
Tuscaloosa's Black Warrior Brewing Company announced the sad news on social media on Monday, saying that after hard decision-making, the brewpub will close on May 10th.
"Black Warrior has always been more than just a brewery—it’s been a place where friends gathered, where strangers became regulars, and where a simple pint turned into lasting memories<" they said in a farewell post. "From the very beginning, our goal was to create a place that felt comfortable and welcoming. Thanks to all of you, it became something even better—a true community."

Black Warrior opened not long after Druid City Brewing Company as the second beermaker in Tuscaloosa. They were followed by the shorter-lived Band of Brothers Brewing, but the BWBC and DCBC have both stood the test of time, remaining open for more than a decade each.
Black Warrior is known for long-running favorites like their Crimson Irish Ale, Lock 17 IPA, and Apricot Wheat, and also regularly experiments with seasonal small-batch brews.
The brewery was the site of many yoga classes, chili cookoffs for nonprofits, live music shows, watch parties for soccer matches, and much more in its 13 years on University Boulevard downtown.
Black Warrior Brewing will remain open until May 10th, with a series of celebrations during its last three days in business.
"We invite you to join us for one last run as we celebrate 13 years of good beer, good people, and unforgettable moments," they wrote. "Come raise a glass with us one more time."
