Tuscaloosa Police Identify Woman Killed in Friday Crash
The Tuscaloosa Police Department has identified the woman who was killed early Friday morning in a collision on U.S. Highway 11.
Stephanie Taylor, a spokeswoman for the police department, said the victim was Lavonta Caldwell, a 44-year-old Tuscaloosa woman.
Caldwell's vehicle collided with a Chevrolet Silverado on U.S. Highway 11 just after 3 a.m. Friday, and both vehicles tumbled about 20 feet down a roadside ravine.
Caldwell was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck was not at the scene of the accident when emergency responders arrived, but Taylor said he was found at a nearby intersection later Friday morning and was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries he sustained during the wreck.
The other driver was only identified as a 39-year-old man from Tuscaloosa County.
No further details were available Monday morning as TPD's Accident Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the fatal collision.
