Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox Earns Re-Election Endorsement from Nick & Terry Saban
Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox got a major endorsement in his campaign for a sixth term this week from Nick & Terry Saban.
The former king and queen of Alabama football have typically shied away from direct endorsements - Saban said in 2020 that it was not his place to get involved in politics when he was head coach. Now retired from coaching but with plenty of work left to do in Tuscaloosa, the greatest coach in college football history says Maddox has earned another four years in the office.
In a video shared by the Maddox campaign, Saban said the city has thrived under Maddox's leadership since 2005 - though that's due in no small part to Saban's own success leading the Crimson Tide. Looking ahead, the couple are also collaborating with the city on the over $80 million Saban Center, a STEM learning and education hub breaking ground on the site of the old Tuscaloosa News building very soon.

"For 18 years, Terry and I have called Tuscaloosa home. This is the best college town we've ever lived in and it's largely due to Mayor Maddox," Saban said in a video shared Monday morning. "Terry and I have worked closely with Mayor Maddox on several projects and he truly cares about the people in our community and makes great decisions to elevate Tuscaloosa. Terry and I are proud that soon the Saban Center will be another highlight for people in this community to enjoy. Many thanks to Walt, and Roll Tide."
Maddox thanked the Sabans for their endorsement and invited everyone to get out to the polls tomorrow, Tuesday March 4th, for municipal elections in Tuscaloosa.
"I am beyond honored to receive an endorsement from the Sabans," Maddox said. "Nick and Terry Saban have devoted so much to Tuscaloosa, and they believe in the work we will continue to do in the next four years."
Polls are open tomorrow at 7 a.m. and stay open til 7 p.m. Check out our coverage hub for those races here and stay connected to the Tuscaloosa Thread on Tuesday night for real-time results the minute they're available.
