Tuscaloosa’s Homegrown Restaurant Local Roots Permanently Closing
A truly Tuscaloosa restaurant will permanently close today after serving burgers, shakes, and "granddaddy" fries for almost a decade.
Before building and moving into a brick-and-mortar eatery north of the Black Warrior River in 2020, Local Roots was one of the area's very first food trucks. First launched in 2016, their Southern scratch kitchen recipes found favor with University of Alabama students and townies alike.

On Thursday, the restaurant management announced on Instagram that they will permanently close Local Roots.
"In 2016, we set out with a dream — to bring something new and innovative to Tuscaloosa. We took a leap of faith with a food truck and a third-generation family fry recipe. From that moment on, Granddaddy Fries became a Tuscaloosa staple," their post read. "We can’t thank this community enough for the love, support, and loyalty you’ve shown us over the past 8 years. While this chapter of Local Roots is coming to a close, the memories will stay with us forever."
