The Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service's Swift Water Rescue Team has headed to South Alabama to assist with Hurricane Sally relief efforts.

The team was activated at 10 p.m. Wednesday night and arrived in south Alabama early Thursday morning. Alabama Emergency Management Agency Division C Coordinator Don Hartley says the team is assisting in recovery efforts in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.

"There are still [many] people trapped in houses, apartments, and condominiums, and they'll be working to assist them today," Hartley said.

Battalion Chief Doug McAdory leads the team which consists of one logistics officer and 13 swift water technicians as well as three Tuscaloosa Police Department Officers who will assist with communications and security support.
