Tuscaloosa Farmers Market Introduces Double Bucks Program for SNAP Recipients
The City of Tuscaloosa has announced a new program to ensure families in need have access to fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables. Families who receive SNAP benefits (Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program) can participate in the 'Double Bucks' program starting Saturday, July 4th. The program allows families shopping for eligible items with their EBT cards to have a dollar-for-dollar match on fresh fruits and vegetables purchased with a maximum match of $20.
“The Double Up Food Bucks program will help citizens of Tuscaloosa stretch their SNAP benefit to give them access to more healthy fruits & vegetables from local farmers,” City Venue Operations Manager Alexis Clark says. “We’re excited to be able to offer the program at our Saturday Farmers Market at the River Market, as well as at our new Pop-Up Farmers Market locations across Tuscaloosa.”
You can visit the Tuscaloosa Farmers Market every Saturday at the Tuscaloosa River Market beginning at 7 a.m. The City of Tuscaloosa says it plans to release additional information on Pop-Up Farmers Market locations soon.
