The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office recently unveiled its new memorial site in honor of its K9 units at its training facility in Samantha.

The memorial honors all 43 past and present K9 partners the Sheriff's Office has worked alongside over the years. Each dog's name, assignment and time spent on the force are engraved into bricks along the ground.

At its center, the memorial features three detailed wood carvings of several dog breeds - German Shepard, bloodhound and Labrador retriever. These three breeds are most often used to assist in law enforcement K9 units.

A plaque that's positioned alongside the names of the K9's reads:

"This memorial is dedicated to the K9 partners of the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office who have served the citizens of this county faithfully and courageously throughout the years. They are owed a debt of gratitude that cannot be repaid. Their loyalty and friendship are unwavering and their love unconditional."
