The Child Abuse Prevention Services of Tuscaloosa is hosting an ongoing online silent auction before its regular annual golf tournament, the nonprofit's largest yearly fundraiser.

"This year is our first year posting the silent auction online leading up to the main event," said Lisa Maddox, Executive Director for C.A.P.S. of Tuscaloosa. "We placed the majority of our auction items online as a way to allow members of the community the chance to bid."

C.A.P.S. is a nonprofit organization that has served Tuscaloosa for over 40 years. Its goal is to provide educational and awareness programs to schools in the community to teach kids about the issues surrounding child abuse. Their annual golf tournament, now supplemented by this silent auction, will raise the lion's share of the money they will use to operate for the next year.

The 28th annual silent auction kicked off Monday and will run until Friday at 8:30 p.m. Highlights of the auction include several pieces of autographed Crimson Tide memorabilia, including some items signed by Nick Saban, as well as hotel and dinner getaway packages to local hotspots like Hotel Capstone and Half Shell Oyster House.

A list of all available online auction items can be found here.

The week-long event will culminate Friday, August 6 with the regular golf tournament at Tall Pines Golf Club starting at 4:00 p.m. There golfers will start by playing 9 holes, eat dinner at the club, and return after sundown to shoot 9 more holes with glow-in-the-dark golf balls.

"Last year we had a big turnout because people were ready to get outside once everything opened back up," Maddox said. "This year we have 14 teams with 56 total players, and we're very excited about that."

As of publishing, C.A.P.S. has raised $360 through the silent auction.
