The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a potential phone scam in West Alabama.

TCSO says scammers are targeting residents within Tuscaloosa and claiming to be representatives of the department.

"The number (205) 469-8972 IS NOT a number associated with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. Also, there is no Sergeant Witherspoon with our agency. If you get a call from this number or you are given this number... simply know it is not us," TCSO said in a post to social media.

Scams are not new to the area, as the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office frequently warns residents of multiple scamming attempts.

Those who think they may have been the victim of a phone scam are urged to contact the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office at (205) 752-0616.
