Tuscaloosa’s Tinsel Trail to Move Away from Riverwalk, 2021 Registration Now Open

It's Christmas in July: registration for the 2021 Tuscaloosa Tinsel Trail is officially open to all those who want to sponsor a tree. After 8 years along The Tuscaloosa Riverwalk, though, the holiday staple will find a new home at Government Plaza this year.

"Ongoing construction along the Riverwalk required us to look at different options for this year's Tinsel Trail," said Ashley Cornelius-Hester, Director of Communications for Tuscaloosa's One Place. "The City of Tuscaloosa graciously offered for us to use Government Plaza to make the most of Tinsel Trail 2021, and we are excited to have that opportunity."

The trees will line most of the sidewalks at the Plaza. Cornelius-Hester said that the Plaza allows them to display roughly the same number of trees as they could at the Riverwalk. However, one change to the trail is that Candy Cane Lane will now be split up into separate Candy Cane Corners around the Plaza.

"Tinsel Trail is a beloved local holiday tradition that we are proud to bring to Tuscaloosa.  Our excitement about the new opportunities at Government Plaza seems to be widely shared with our sponsors, as well!" Cornelius-Hester said. "Registration opened this morning and we have received more sponsorships than in any year before!  We cannot wait to see everyone shine this season."

TOP is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to making a difference to local families through after-school programs, career development, GED/ESL classes, parenting education and teen intervention programs. Proceeds from the annual Tinsel Trail are used to support each of these programs.
