The Tuscaloosa Public Library is bringing back one of its most popular offerings next month with the return of its Repair Cafe, where West Alabama residents can get stuff fixed for free.

The library has hosted two such events already this year, and in a press release, said more than 300 people have attended so far.

The premise is simple. Handymen and women volunteer to spend an afternoon at the library trying to fix any items brought in from the community - some electronics, small appliances, torn clothing, broken jewelry, typewriters, bicycles.

About 75 percent of the fixes attempted at the first two Repair Cafes were successful, TPL said, returning a functioning item to visitors and preventing hundreds of pounds of trash from entering local landfills.

On Saturday, July 12th, TPL will host the third Repair Cafe at the library from noon to 3:00 p.m.

The Cafe is also a learning environment for adults and children alike. The volunteer handyfolks will answer questions and walk you through the repair. Additionally, TPL will have a “Take It Apart” table where kids can experiment by disassembling items like laptops and coffee makers.

Don't miss out on TPL's next Repair Cafe, set for Saturday, July 12th from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m.
