One of the most popular fast food franchises in the world is planning to open a second location in the city of Northport, a city councilman announced Thursday evening.

Jeff Hogg, who represents Northport's District 5 and chairs the city's retail development committee, said a new Taco Bell will be built in front of the Publix at the corner of Mitt Lary Road and Highway 69 in the Shoppes of Bristol Park.

Hogg has made the recruitment of new restaurants and retailers to the city of Northport a priority since he was first elected to the council in 2016, and as he enters a second term, he said the task is harder than ever because of the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions it necessitates.

He said residents have asked for more sit-down options instead of fast food restaurants, but that right now the city has to take what it can get, and show other companies that it will support new options in the area, large and small.

"As we continue to evolve in recruitment of new business during a pandemic, the best predictor of other businesses coming is to see that you support the others in the area. Please support Taco Bell and the other surrounding businesses in this area," Hogg said in a post on social media. "As you know, it’s a marathon, not a sprint and everything builds off the other. The changing landscape of how Northport looked four years ago versus today is vastly different and we look to continue that momentum."
