Rep. Sewell Presses Treasury About Tax Refund Delays
West Alabama Democrat Congresswoman Terri Sewell is calling on the Trump Administration to immediately provide answers on the growing number of tax refund delays that Americans are experiencing.
In a post on her official Facebook site, Sewell blasted Trump's treasury department for being uncooperative in providing an answer to her questions about the delays that are running upwards of 10 weeks for those who have already filed tax returns.

Sewell, who is the ranking member of the House Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee, had given Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent a deadline of Monday to answer her query for more information about the delays.
"The letter demands answers after seeing evidence that President Trump's executive order mandating the electronic payment of tax refunds has created massive delays for taxpayers who need and deserve their refund," Sewell told the committee. "Every week 300,000 more taxpayers receive notices that their refunds will be delayed for up to ten weeks."
Sewell claimed Sec. Bessent has refused to respond to their letter demanding answers about the growing tax refund delay crisis. "It's unacceptable, the secretary needs to provide that information," Sewell stated. "Taxpayers deserve to have leadership at the IRS that they can trust."
Last year, after Trump issued an executive order mandating electronic payment of tax returns, the National Taxpayer's Union (TPU) noted more than 10 million individual taxpayers receive refunds by paper check and may not have a bank account or ability to manage an online account.
So far, according to the TPU, 1.4 million taxpayers have received notice of delays due to inadequate banking information.
The eight term representative of West Alabama's 7th District gave Bessent another deadline of April 6 in which to answer questions about the delays.
