Severe Weather Potential Kicks Off Alabama’s New Year
Happy New Year’s Eve! Many Alabamians are ready to ring in 2021. We will need to stay weather aware tonight and tomorrow morning.
The National Weather Service Birmingham has noted that “the cold front has trended slower and therefore has pushed the severe timing back by a few hours. The highest chance for a few severe storms will be found in the south after Midnight. The threat ends by early tomorrow afternoon in our southeastern counties.”
UPDATE TO TIMELINE:
The current timeline will be Midnight to 7 am for the western areas, 4 am to 10 am for the central region, and 7 am to 1 pm for the state's eastern part. My suggestion is to stay weather aware and, most importantly, be sure you have a way to receive weather notifications that can wake you up.
According to the National Weather Service Birmingham, most of our listening areas are under a marginal risk area. The threats that could be possible are from the slight risk zone but are less likely. However, we cannot rule out damaging winds up to 60 mph and the possibility of tornadoes. There is a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the following counties: Marion-Lamar-Fayette-Winston-Walker-Blount-Etowah-Calhoun-Cherokee-Cleburne-Pickens-Tuscaloosa-Jefferson-Shelby-St. Clair-Talladega-Clay-Randolph-Sumter-Greene-Hale-Perry-Bibb-Chilton-Coosa-Tallapoosa-Chambers-Marengo-Dallas-Autauga-Lowndes-Elmore-Montgomery-Macon-Bullock-Lee-Russell-Pike-Barbour.
