Rock Quarry Elementary School’s Rising Star Student of the Month: Evelyn Atkins
Tuscaloosa City Schools, along with Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa, Legal Services of Alabama and Child Abuse Prevention Services, will highlight and recognize Rising Star Character Students of the Month from each school in the district during the 2022-2023 school year. Each month, two to three outstanding TCS students will be highlighted in this series.
Evelyn Atkins, a fifth grader at Rock Quarry Elementary School, was surprised but proud when she was named a Rising Star Character Student of the Month Tuesday.
At Rock Quarry, Atkins is a member of the Robotics Club. She said she likes participating and having the chance to create items.
"I like being creative and being able to build my own things," Atkins said.
Atkins said she is very excited to become a Rising Star and thinks it is important to always demonstrate good character.
"It feels good to be selected as a Rising Star," Atkins said. "It makes me feel like my school trusts that I have good character. I think you should be outstanding in character because I believe everyone is good at something and it's best to encourage people."
Atkins said she demonstrates good character by being honest to her friends and by helping other students. She said she is excited to represent Rock Quarry for this honor.
"It makes me really happy that my school picked me," Atkins said.
