The National Weather Service continues the Winter Weather Advisory that starts at Midnight and goes until Noon on Monday, January 11, 2021. Here are the counties involved:

Fayette

Lamar

Marion

Pickens

Tuscaloosa

Walker

Winston

We are monitoring this system as it develops and moves towards our coverage areas. At this time, the National Weather Service Birmingham notes that “it appears snow accumulations will be less than one half of an inch with a few localized areas of up to 1 inch near the Mississippi state line.”

Currently, some models are predicting higher snowfall amounts for West Central Alabama. Again, I always say winter weather in the south is tricky. James Spann mentioned on his Facebook page that “the best chance of snow tomorrow will be north of a line from Aliceville to Northport to Sumiton to Guntersville. In this part of North and West Alabama, snow amounts will be generally 1/2 inch or less, although a few isolated amounts of 1" to 2" can't be totally ruled out if a heavier snow band sets up.”

We will continue to monitor and will bring you the necessary updates. Thanks, Mary K

The National Weather Service Birmingham has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Fayette, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston starting at Midnight Monday, January 11, 2021 until Noon Monday, January 11, 2021.

Snow is making its trek across parts of Texas; then, it will head into portions of Louisiana and Mississippi. It will also bring a wintry mix and rain to parts of Alabama. My advice is to stay on top of this and be aware because winter weather in the south is no fun.

Currently, the National Weather Service Birmingham has continued the Hazardous Weather Outlook with some updates.  This means “A quick hitting winter storm will affect parts of Central Alabama after midnight through Monday morning. The best chance of accumulating snow will be in portions of Marion, Winston, Walker, Fayette, Lamar, Pickens, and Tuscaloosa Counties. At this time, it appears snow accumulations will be less than one half of an inch. Accumulating snow may continue through Noon on Monday for portions of Marion, Winston, Walker, Fayette, Lamar, Pickens, and Tuscaloosa Counties. Temperatures should rise during the afternoon and most of the precipitation switches to all rain.”

We are monitoring this winter system and what it means for Alabama. I am on standby to bring you any weather updates along with Captain Ray. – Thanks, Mary K
