There was a potential chlorine leak at a City of Northport water treatment plant Monday afternoon, according to multiple public safety officials in the area.

Alabama Emergency Management Agency Division C Coordinator Don Hartley reported that hazmat teams from the Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue Service have been dispatched to attempt to stop the leak, which a spokesperson for the fire department confirmed.

TFR said the potential leak took place Monday morning at the Northport Water Treatment Plant on Lary Lake Road. She said the problem came from a one-ton cylinder of chlorine, and that HAZMAT teams have secured the leak as of noon Monday.

The spokesperson also said there were no injuries and no evacuation orders in place as of noon Monday.
