K-9 officers and their handlers/partners often become very close on and off duty.

Recently, a Pickens County deputy showed the strength of the bond that exists between them.

Last Saturday, a Pickens County deputy made a traffic stop and soon after realized that heavy smoke was coming from his police vehicle.

The deputy immediately rushed to check on his K-9 partner, Zuna, and get his partner out of the vehicle as quickly as possible.

This deputy knew that material possessions inside the police cruiser weren't nearly as valuable to him as Zuna.

According to a social media post from the Pickens County Alabama Sherriff's Office Facebook account, the deputy was not concerned with weapons, equipment, or any other important items in the vehicle.

The department praised the deputy for his loyalty to his K-9 partner and expressed gratitude for Zuna's safety and well-being.

In the intense and dangerous world of police work, one day, the tables could be turned.

I'm willing to bet that Zuna would return the favor.
