A pedestrian was seriously hurt late Friday night when he was struck by a vehicle in a downtown Tuscaloosa crosswalk.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokeswoman for the city's police department, said officers responded to University Boulevard and 23rd Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Friday on reports of an accident.

A pedestrian had been hit in the crosswalk there - one of the prominent intersections of downtown Tuscaloosa, where popular restaurants sit on three of the four corners.

Taylor said the man, 47, was seriously injured and taken to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment.

TPD's accident reconstruction team, which is called the Traffic Homicide Unit, will investigate the collision.
