Pedestrian Struck & Killed on I-20/59 Near McCalla Friday
A West Alabama man died Friday morning when he was struck by a vehicle while walking on the shoulder of Interstate-20/59 in Tuscaloosa County, police said Saturday.
Justin O'Neal, a spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's State Troopers, identified the victim as 40-year-old Lannie D. Hyde of West Blocton, Alabama.
O'Neal said Hyde was walking on the shoulder of the southbound lanes of I-20 when he was struck by a passing 2006 Ford Focus that was being driven by a 28-year-old Hueytown man.
The collision happened just after 11:30 a.m. Friday near the interstate's Exit 99 about one mile south of McCalla, O'Neal said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to the Troopers.
No further details were available Saturday morning as law enforcement continues to investigate the circumstances of the deadly accident.
