Papa Murphy's, a national pizza franchise built on freshly-built pizzas customers can cook at home, is officially set to open sometime this week in Northport.

The take-home-and-bake pizza chain is located just off McFarland Boulevard in North Square plaza. It sits beside the new combination-Great American Cookies and Marble Slab Creamery.

City Council President Jeff Hogg announced on social media Monday that he confirmed with the area manager that should everything go as planned, the store should open very soon.

Papa Murphy's is ranked as the fifth-largest pizza chain in the U.S. The franchise got its start back in 1980 in Oregon, and has now expanded into 1,500 locations across 38 states, Canada and the United Arab Emirates.

"It's basically a Subway on steroids for pizza," Hogg explained. "There are no freezers. There are no prepackaged items. Even the cheese is grated in the store. Everything is made fresh."

Although Hogg couldn't confirm the exact opening date, he hopes that it will open any day now.
