A service outage is preventing AT&T users from calling 911 in Tuscaloosa County, according to an emergency alert sent Friday night.

The public safety message was sent to the cell phones of all AT&T users in the area at 11 p.m. Friday.

Users of other cell networks including Verizon and T-Mobile were apparently not effected by the outage.

According to the alert, users who need to contact emergency services are asked to dial directly to the law enforcement agency, fire department or ambulance they need to reach.
