The city of Northport's first standalone Starbucks cafe is open now on Lurleen Wallace Boulevard.

The coffeeshop features a two-lane drive-thru and seating for customers both inside and outside the store, which was built on a formerly empty site off Park Street near the Northport Community Center.

The public gathering spot is popular with locals and was once being considered for demolition to make way for a coffee shop, but those plans were scrapped after loud public outcry to save the community center.

The city renovated and reopened the community center, and new plans were drawn up as Starbucks planned an expansion that began with the opening of new drive-thrus on Rice Mine Road and 15th Street.

The Northport store, although the last to be built and opened, is the largest of the three new Starbucks stores and opened on Monday. They'll be serving drinks until 9 p.m., employees said on social media.

All three new Starbucks sites were projects by a Montgomery-based firm called RJ Development.

“Starbucks is a great addition to the city of Northport!" Mayor Dale Phillips told the Thread. "I am very happy they chose our city and I’m thrilled for residents!”
