Northport to Get Its First-Ever Standalone Starbucks, Realtor Says
Coffee drinkers in Northport rejoice - a standalone Starbucks is finally coming to the city, a local realtor said on Thursday.
Richard Harwood, of Harwood Dichiara Real Estate, said on Facebook Tuesday that a large and currently undeveloped site on Lurleen B. Wallace Boulevard will be the future home of a new Starbucks.
The property sits across the highway from the Shell service station, between Lurleen and 20th Avenue in Northport.
Hardwood said the deal finally closed after many hurdles and challenges, but it is finally "across the finish line."
The news ends a long saga about how to best develop that part of Lurleen B. Wallace Boulevard. Early plans called for the demolition of the Northport Community Center for a mixed-use development featuring residential spaces and a coffee shop, but sharp community backlash eventually killed that plan. The council instead invested more money into the community center and recently reopened it for public use.
This Starbucks is instead coming to the space where former Northport City Council President Jeff Hogg once promised a Seven Brew coffeeshop - when that deal fell through, Hogg blamed residents advocating for the community center, which sits on a different property, without providing evidence.
A 7 Brew has since opened on 15th Street in Tuscaloosa.
