Save A Lot in Northport has served the Tuscaloosa and Northport communities well but that is soon coming to an end. An assistant manager at the popular grocery store confirmed to the Tuscaloosa Thread that their location at 3067 McFarland Blvd is closing its doors permanently.

Their last day of operation will be next Friday, June 25th.

The manager said at this point, the discount supermarket has no plans to move locations or open another store in the area. There also will be no closing sale to empty the store of merchandise, only normal operations until the closing date.

Questions about the reason behind the closing were directed to the Houchens Food Group. Houchens Industries, Inc. owns and operates several supermarket chains such as Piggly Wiggly and Save A Lot as well as a handful of fast-food franchises, including Slim Chickens, which will open at least two locations in Tuscaloosa in the coming months.

The Thread was unable to speak with a representative for Houchens by the time of publication.

Stay connected to the Tuscaloosa Thread for more information if it becomes available, and if you're a regular customer of the Save A Lot in Northport's Buford Plaza, be sure to visit one last time before they close their doors for good next Friday.
