Police recovered a hand grenade, illegal firearms, methamphetamine and more during a narcotics raid in Northport on Wednesday.

According to court documents obtained by the Tuscaloosa Thread, the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force sent agents to a residence on Barnes Settlement Road in Northport to execute a search warrant.

Police found and detained nine different men and women inside the home, including a 22-year-old Brandon Mccraw, who was in a garage that had been converted into a bedroom.

It was there that agents reportedly found an illegally short 12-gauge shotgun, a .44-caliber revolver with the serial number removed, a short-barrel rifle and another handgun.

Officers also say they found methamphetamine pipes and more than 20 grams of the controlled substance.

As the search continued, WANTF agents said "in Mccraws bedroom on top of the shelf where agents located the firearms and narcotics was a hand grenade."

The grenade was a hollowed-out replica, but according to the deposition, it had been filled with black gunpowder and metal BBs, with a blue fuse sticking out of a hole in the device.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department bomb squad, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office bomb squad and federal ATF agents were called to the scene.

After first insisting the device was just a replica and "a good container," Mccraw reportedly admitted to police that explosive powder, shrapnel and fuse did make the grenade dangerous and capable of detonating.

The ATF disassembled and made safe the grenade, and Mccraw was arrested on a slew of felony charges with more possible from both local and federal police.

According to the deposition, Mccraw was charged with possession of a destructive device, possession of a short barrel rifle in the act of a felony, possession of a firearm with an altered ID, possession of a short-barrelled shotgun, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and failure to affix a tax stamp.

The 22-year-old Northport man was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
