New Whataburger on the Tuscaloosa Strip to Operate 24/7, Open Soon

The city of Tuscaloosa's third Whataburger is almost set to open on the Strip, where food will reportedly be served all day and night.

In a Thursday morning press release, a Whataburger spokesperson said the brand new restaurant will soon open at 1130 University Boulevard.

After the grand opening, the new location will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The round-the-clock availability is made possible in part by new digital-forward innovations in the Strip restaurant that Whataburger called first-of-their-kind for the brand, including self-service ordering kiosks on-site, a redesigned kitchen and all-new food lockers.

The guest orders at a kiosk or the Whataburger app, the kitchen preps the food and places it in a locker with opaque compartment doors on either side and everything is kept at the right temperature until its picked up by the person who ordered it.

“We know our Guests have busy lives. And you’ve asked us for faster and quicker ways to get your Whataburger. We are listening!” said Whataburger Brand Leader, Greg Guidry. "This restaurant represents a significant step in elevating on-the-go Guest convenience and brand innovation. We also know students are 24/7, and so are we. Whether it’s a late-night study session or an after-game pick me up, at Whataburger, we are committed to delivering even more ways to serve you.”

The Strip Whataburger made national headlines earlier this year when its signage was installed, conspicuously missing the brand's signature orange color scheme.

The University of Alabama later told the Thread that the all-white signs were a condition of the brand's lease there on the Strip.

UPDATE: A Whataburger spokesperson has reached out to the Thread to say the grand opening they had scheduled for next week has been postponed.

"We’ve just learned that the restaurant, previously scheduled to open on Monday, August 7, has been postponed," they said in an email. "We apologize for any inconvenience and will be in touch as soon as an opening date is confirmed."
