Planned Parenthood has a new operating facility in Birmingham at 1019 First Ave. North. The clinic opened to the public on July 14, 2020.

The clinic offers various reproductive health services such as birth control consultations, STI testing, annual gynecological exams, and abortion procedures. The Birmingham location serves women in Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia.

Planned Parenthood previously had a clinic in Birmingham, but they did not perform abortion procedures since 2017. The new facility offering these procedures is expecting to attract protesters. Some pro-life groups already protested in front of the construction site while workers built the new clinic.

To protect women seeking medical care at the facility, the clinic has a fenced-in parking area with security cameras.

The new Birmingham clinic is the fourth women's clinic in Alabama to offer abortion procedures. The other clinics are in Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, and Huntsville.

Hours of operation for the clinic are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed on the weekends.

“It’s 11,000 square feet, a state-of-the-art facility,” said Barbara Ann Luttrell, vice president of external affairs for Planned Parenthood Southeast. “We will offer a full spectrum of reproductive health services.”
